Captain Nicholas Flynn is an Air Force intelligence officer who was involved in a CIA covert operation in Libya that did not go well. The CIA officer in charge blamed Captain Flynn for the mess that the CIA officer himself created. The military did not back up their officer and he was assigned to a remote location in Alaska to head up a new team to provide security to a remote radar site. Perhaps the end of his career or perhaps not.The Russians have long been behind the United States in stealth technology as seen in the Northrup Grumman B-2 Spirt bomber and the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II fighter. The Russians have developed a stealth bomber that they believe is superior to what the Americans have, and their prototype is going through flight trials. On its last trial the aircraft was doing a longer distance trial, while armed with a dozen nuclear tipped missiles. The aircraft disappears.Russian aircraft flying into American airspace are becoming more frequent. The airspace is in Alaska. Why are the Russians all of a sudden interested in Alaska? When an American F-22 Raptor and a Russian radar-equipped patrol plane collide over Alaska in a vicious snow storm, all hell breaks loose from Moscow to Washington, D.C. They are not the only ones ordered into the area, and this other team are not Americans.This reader was a fan of author Dale Brown, beginning with his first novel “Flight of the Old Dog” published in 1987. For some unknown reason, in recent years this reader did not keep up with the authors novels. When it was announced that Dale Brown’s most recent novel “Arctic Storm Rising” would be released in late May, 2021, this reader immediately ordered it. Loved it! This is the first in the new “A Nick Flynn Novel” series. In the meantime, all the missing Dale Brown novels in this readers library have now been ordered! A different version of Red Dawn, in Alaska. Just in a smaller version. Throw in a good knockoff of Clint Eastwood's FIirefox plot and you have a decent story, that hopefully will blossom into a decent series. The main character gets hosed by the CIA, in the opening chapter. And the action takes off literally from there with what you would expect from this author. A lot of suspense and research keeps the reader wanting to read more of this series.
